"Zerocrop has worked with <a href="http://www.billieraymartin.com"target=new">Billie Ray Martin and the most fashionable hat designer <a href="http://www.jsmithesquire.com/"target=new>Justin Smith, and has performed live at <a href="http://www.berghain.de/"target=new>Berghain. His last album <a href="http://www.zerocrop.com/fucked"target=new>Fucked is mainly about sex and drugs, but somehow without genre-specific hysteria and cheap instrumentation (that make so many electronic pop productions so ridiculous and pointless these days; please consult the last report of your choice about Colourful-Attire-Protest-Youth of the month). Zerocrop is much closer to the good ones in the tradition of synth-pop than to the hordes of disposable follow-ups. The reason mainly being that he writes good pop songs, sings them with a rather good pop voice and furnishes them with good pop-arrangements. in addition there are the lyrics, that are not at all pop and intensively deal with unromantic themes that predominate on the album: in the asylum, in prison, in faith, at war, in love, at night, at the fringes, in the head. But there are those pretty melodies on top, that accompany drones, pedal steel, cello and backwards loops. Fantastic album." <a href="http://www.finn-johannsen.de/de/home/index.php"target=new> Finn Johannsen, <a href="http://www.de-bug.de/"target=new>De:Bug Magazine, September 2008.

A quick mention for the new Zerocrop album Painkiller. It's great. It's got a bit of a Balearic feel believe it or not (in the eclectic sense) with Zerocrop's warbling on top and even some twanged out steel guitar. There are touches of <a href="http://www.spoonrecords.com/"target=new>Can, <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neu!"target=new>Neu and <a href="http://www.yello.ch/"target=new>Yello with summery, musical and melancholic edges, but a high bliss factor regardless. Quite tricky to do that. There's even Inside The Prison, a touching ditty about prison sex! Luscious and dreamy in places, Painkiller is a soundscape that conjures emotions like rays of sunshine on a rainy Britain. <a href="http://www.trustthedj.com/MarkMoore/"target=new>Mark Moore, <a href="http://www.qxmagazine.com/"target=new>QX Magazine, September 2008

"Zerocrop's Painkiller is an important endeavor in rock music. In it, Parker ups the ante for all producers of computer-based, digitally recorded popular music. He creates modern, original, extremely well-produced radio-friendly songs whilst rarely resorting to the obvious - (No small feat in today's world of mostly über-formulaic drivel). […] I urge all radio hosts within reach of this review to air some Zerocrop Painkiller pop - ASAP!. You just might help propel this most-inventive of rock projects into the fame it rightly deserves." - Robert Urban, Urban Productions, NYC

At long last, Zerocrop returns with a brand new, full-length, 10 track album, Painkiller – the ultimate music for psychopathic states of mind. The new ten-track album is released on August 18th 2008 but is available to buy in the Shop right now. Having explored sex and drugs on Fucked and Ain't No W*nker, Zerocrop turns the spotlight onto violence. The album opens with the full length version of the single Die Screaming, available now as a free download for all subscribers to the Zerocrop mailing list, and while stocks last as a free, vinyl 7inch version featuring a remixed title track and an exclusive b-side, from the Shop. Die Screaming brings together a host of screamacious performers, who you can hear a cappella in the Scream section of this brand new website.

Album highlights include: the twin epics of London's night-time, Nightvision and Scum; the pedal steel ballad of self-harm Razors; the guitar driven, deadly and desperate Ugly; the Guantanamo inspired slow Latin sounds of Inside The Prison; and the doom-laden closer Evil. It also includes Don't Hurt Me, a reworked vocal version of a song originally written for milliner Justin Smith. The trademark Zerocrop sounds fill this album: preview all the tracks in the Painkiller section of the website. Painkiller is filled with disturbing drones, mashed up drums and layer upon layer of lush vocal melodies alongside tidal washes of pedal steel, menacing shards of guitar, eerie spoken words – all encased in an 8-panel digipak, designed by <a href="http://www.rebelsincontrol.com/"target="new">Philip Marshall. Furious, eerie, apocalyptic and downright frighteningly beautiful, Painkiller is the new Zerocrop album. Get your copy now in the Shop.

A new Zerocrop single has arrived with a rather beguiling 7" sleeve. On listening to the a-side Die Screaming first thing in the morning, with its sampled screames and drone pad, I hastily fumble to flip on the b-side Still Love. Relief is achieved with its faux <a href="http://www.ledzeppelin.com/"target=new>Led Zeppelin beat and loud discordant guitars. "You're treating me like shit, I love you for it" sings Zerocrop in a rather glam vocal. It's great! On returning to Die Screaming the whole experience is suddenly a lot more pleasurable. The song feels relaxing now with some killer lyrics about.... violent, frustrated love/hate... possibly? Or is it actually a song about George Bush and the likes? (How come there are so few protest songs nowadays when we need them?} Nice backwards bits too. It's not a classic beauty but IT IS beautiful. This single makes me realise the importance of having two sides. We have them on singles and vinyl albums but we don't have them on CDs and mp3s. Perhaps music is incomplete without two sides. Off balance and lacking another limb. Can't wait for the Zerocrop album. <a href="http://www.trustthedj.com/MarkMoore/"target=new>Mark Moore / <a href="http://qxmagazine.com/"target=new>QX Magazine
